Prayer Rally vs. Rally for Food?

Jun Lozada is already making rounds in universities just like a superstar promoting his newest flick. But the invitation is actually for the Prayer Rally tomorrow in Makati. Anyone game for this?

Of course, "another side" is trying to control this by sending a fake bomb threat in PUP Campus this afternoon before Jun Lozada's visit.

For the latest Philippine news stories and videos, visit GMANews.TV

I heard alot of people will join this rally, from Makati Business Club (even company owners are giving their employees a chance to join the rally if they want to), to different universities, and even religious groups. Of course, expect politicians and Erap loyalists' presence as well. I admire the youth for standing up for their beliefs and for supporting Mr. Lozada all the way. It's good to know that there are still people in this country who value integrity; and for those who have it are honored and praised, and loved like heroes (just observe how people treat this guy who was referred as J-Lo!). The sad part is that there are anti-Lozada groups who are trying to destroy the man's credibility by exposing his adultering side and introducing a new character in this political riot - a mistress.

But on the other side of the battle ground, of course there are Administration supporters who did their rally early this afternoon in Welcome Rotonda, Quezon City - with their flashy cards, and expensive looking tarps - it's no brainer that the budget for these cards screaming "Trabaho hindi Gulo", came from government officials. The funniest thing is when an ABS-CBN reporter asks what is the purpose of their rally, someone answered he doesnt know, it was actually his friend who brought him along.. another rallyist, cant even answer; and then there's an old lady enjoying her packed meal under the sun, said - someone just told them they should come because there are free food, and so they did because they dont have work.

So where will you be tomorrow?

Edsa People Power Celebration, Whatever Happened to Philippine Flag?

When I was a kid in grade school, the only importance of the 1986 Edsa Revolution in my life is the text prints in my History book, (or Sibika and Kultura?) - making sure I remember the figures, people's name, place and dates so I would have something to answer on our periodical exam.

Now that I am older, I love it that it falls on Monday, and Im enjoying the long weekend.

People are now divided of their different beliefs and stands about this whole thing, and whatever is happening in our country. The funniest thing (or should I say the most wickedly unusual?) about this year's celebration is that our National Flag refuses to raise on it's pole during the Flag Ceremony, and just the National Anthem finishes, the generals and those uniformed men with their tense looks just fidget on the flag and ropes and strings.. and yet again, the Philippine Flag and the pulley just refused to cooperate.

They just resorted to raising it to another lower post, explaining to people that they did check on everything before the celebration, but somehow forgotten to check again this morning because of all the preparations.

I dont know what this means to us.. All I know is that the celebration was held in Edsa Monument, which is part of the Mandaluyong City.. and Mandaluyong is Abalos' kingdom. And every one knows about the Abalos thing and the ZTE deal.

I just thought, maybe the Philippine flag doesnt go with Abalos after all..

Friday Fun!

Friday Five

What’s a pretty good sign that your day at work or school is going to be rough?
If I see my boss in a bad mood. Maybe my team members then felt the same way. Bosses create the atmosphere of the work environment.

What’s a pretty good sign that your day at work or school is going to be terrific?
If there would be a free food or treats! Anything extra ordinary in a day!

What’s a pretty good sign that you should probably eat out? If I need catching up with my friend and I have money to spend!

What’s a pretty good sign that you’re going to spend more money than you should? This always happens.. when Im out shopping, or basically even online shopping! Shopping is an emergency!

What’s a pretty good sign that someone you’ve just met is going to be a pretty good friend? If the first throw of conversations are light and sincere.

Friday Feast

Appetizer

Have you ever played a practical joke on anyone? If so, what did you do and who was your victim? Yes, back in High School, I have a partner in crime, my friend Ella. Our favorite victim is our classmate Diane, we used to tie her bag straps in her deskchair; so everytime the bell rang and she got up to pick her bag, the deskchair would go with it.

Soup

What do your salt and pepper shakers look like? Typical, glass and stainless steel covers. Im into modern and simple stuff for our kitchen.
Salad

Where is the next place you plan to visit (on vacation or business)? I plan to go to Hong Kong Disneyland this year! Just for vacation, but if my company would send me to some other place outside the country, why not?
Main Course

What kind of lotion or cream do you use to keep your hands from getting too dry? I have different lotions for each part of my body. ;) For my hands, I use Bath and Body Works.
Dessert

Make up a dessert, tell us its ingredients, and give it a name. This is the cake I made back in College for our finals. I hope I remember everything right.

flour, baking powder, egg, chocolate powder, butter, salt, unsweetened chocolate, milk, sugar, strawberries.

Bake a plain chocolate cake. Make a chocolate ganache. Do layering with sponge cake and ganache. Top with strawberries! Decorate with strawberry slices on the side too! And now I would have to call it, 'Berry Delicious Cake!

Shareapic and Earn Dollars!

I personally love online albums because it helps me free my disk space, although all of my pictures are stored privately and by invites only. Again, I just don't want to make myself too available for the whole world, or even to my friends.. they might just get tired of me, and chose not to be with me in person.

If you're sick of Flickr, or don't want to upgrade for a bigger memory, and if you find Photobucket too slow.. There's Multiply (which I guess is the best site for business networking), and of course Friendster, and Facebook.

But I've recently discovered a new site Shareapic which pays members for uploading and sharing their pictures. You'll get $0.22 for every 1,000 views of your picture and image. What's good is that you can link it to sites like Ebay, and all other social networking sites I have mentioned above.

And yes, this is a wholesome friendly site, so images are for approval, if you dont want your account suspended, dont post any obscene pictures, no nudity, upskirts, scandals, any picture promoting drugs, and other illegal drugs, although bikini shots are okay.

So upload those pics and earn some dollar$!

On Blogger Templates

Finally, I got my template back! Ive upgraded my template from the classic one to beta blogger template some days ago. I thought the beta, and all the widget thing is far easier, but I just realized it is more complicated!

Im actually far more comfortable with HTML and classic template, however, the classic template doesnt support the Labels - meaning you cannot show your Labels and Categories on the side bar of your webpage. What good is labeling your posts if you cant show them right? And it's a waste of time for readers to dig on your monthly archive just to read related topics on your blog. For those who can't just let go of their classic templates, don't despair because Ive found out the solution how to show your labels with this html code:

<*a* href=http://www.yoursite.blogspot.com/search?label=label name>label name<*/*>

Now you have to configure and edit that, like what I did with my classic template:

<*a* href=http://www.ruthilicious.blogspot.com/search?label=book>Book<*/*>
- Just remove all the the asterisks * in the html code to make it work.

So you have to make all the links for all your labels. To know all the labels you tagged in your previous posts, go to Create Post and click Show All. Everytime you make new label, you have to add a link of that in your side bar. Also, this html trick wont show the number of posts for each label/category.

But still Im not impressed with Beta Blogger, since it somehow save cookies or widget of previous template, so everytime I choose new template, previous settings will still appear, overwriting the new ones. And to make things worse, I just cant make my haloscan work with this new template.

Ive practically wasted 2 hours to configure this template again, so I guess I just have to stick with this now.

For those who might want to upgrade in beta blogger template, here's a cool site to pick up some cool new templates.

Valentine's Day For Sale!

What more can I expect today? People in red clothes Iwhich reminds me not to wear anything in red!), crowded malls flocked with couples.. movie theater long lines.. hearts everywhere! More than lovers, husband and wives, and newly weds, and smug couples, the people who are more than happy this day are the ones who own these establishments, offering the best Valentine's experience today.

Im pretty sure Dangwa, in Espana is now crowded with rows and rows of flowers and bouqets. I have heard, that red roses are now selling at P500/dozen, from P80/dozen. I never realized Valentine's Day can make such a change in price overnight defeating the dollar-peso exchange rate and Jun Lazada vs. government brouhaha. And during this day, Chocolates are always present.. I have heard that the bestseller this time is the chocolate body spread. I completely forgot where to buy this stuff, as I don't pay much interest. For ladies, if you want to have a yeast infection tomorrow, go ask your man to buy this and enjoy dessert tonight.

I don't want to even think of the waiting list for restaurants tonight, but since there are Starbucks in every corner, who needs to worry? And don't even count on the movie offerings.. If you want to catch Marimar and Kamadag on the big screen, go hit the theaters! And since my friend told me that for every Tagalog movie you watch, you get to help the farmers, go and do if for the good cause. Otherwise, just stay home and catch the stars on the primetime drama.

I wonder if media will guard Sta Mesa, Pasig and Pasay tonight, capturing videos of couples who just checked out from motels.. these establishments which serve like nests for forbidden and illegal relationships. But whose to blame? A 12-hour stay (and a whole-time of loving!) for P499 is dirt cheap! and I mean dirt cheap. Be careful with cameras though, people would want fame, but not in the internet; and who would want a Scandal for a surname..? Might as well go pro, and earn big.

What more can I say but Valentine's is overated. It's just so sad that I wont get loving this day, but I've had enough in the past months. Besides, chocolates are still sweet (sorry, I want it dark), and delicious even if you buy and eat them in any regular day. Flowers blossom even in your backyard to appreciate their beauty. It's much nicer to enjoy a fancy dinner without the trouble of going through the waiting list. And yes, lodging establishments offer best deals during off-peak season! ;)

Diamonds, Girls and Investors Bestfriend (Diamond Trading)

I've recently got engaged in an online discussion about investments and business, and guess what I've just discovered? Diamond trading.

Yes there are some people who are particularly interested about this idea, and even Debeers, a popular diamond company is also taking part on this supplying precious gems to interested parties.

Who ever thought that these valuable pieces which is mostly associated with engagement could make a mark in the investment and trading business?

I wonder who would be the players here? Would I see the Olsen twins, and Paris, and Oprah along with the Englad personalities populating the trading scene?

This would need broad knowledge about diamonds, like cuts, karats and weight; as money, certification and authenticity would be tricky for this trade.

As for me, I might as well get a man who wouldn't just slide a precious rock on my finger, but flood my jewelry box as well..

Gimme An O! by Kayla Perrin

Well, probably this is what my mind is screaming at the moment. Now that I haven't experience such divine feeling, but it's more of not having someone to share the experience with.

How many months, and still I'm counting..

Anyway, this is the most recent book I've read. Ive finished the book in two days! The story is not just the typical romance, feel-good book, but it's twisted with suspense and pure seduction. Imagine Halle Berry while reading the life of Dr Love, Lecia - the author of a book Big O! which makes raves in town, a therapist and a certified believe-it-or-not celibate. And then there's a star athlete, Anthony, who is served with divorce papers by his wife Ginger, because of the scandalous prostitute encounter as she says. But not.

The author could have at least let the readers play detective in Ginger's where-abouts and plans, instead of just giving it all away in the middle of the story. But yeah, I guess, I'm reading a chiclit and not a Michael Crichton book, so fine.

But I love the road trip part, which made me want to get the same break in my life. Like be crazy for a moment, enjoy life, and foget about the reality, and all the shit that comes in it.

So for now, I'll just leave reality by indulging in this kind of seductive novel..

New Jedi: Jun Lozada

Jun Lozada is probably the funniest, and wittiest witness who ever sat infront of the Senate. More than watching a Senate hearing, it sounds like a light talk show.

What else can I say, but I sympathize with this man. He's man enough to face and stand for the lesser evil. I've watched the morning session on TV, and the man is credible and consistent with his statements. His revelations is greater than the Glorietta Explosion exposing too many political names. But I am not surprised.

Kidnapping is confirmed, and I believe that if not for the media, Jun Lozada wouldn't be on the Senate this morning, instead he would be on today's newspaper headlines, and part of unresolved murder statistics.

He said something so touching about this remote place he visited, that the people in that area care about their surroundings, and are happy with their lives, yet there is this man he's dealing with (referring to Abalos) who doesnt want to settle with just few million pesos.

He said he chose to be on the Light side, as he is a Jedi and fight the Dark side. And there comes the supportive Senator Mar Roxas saying ".. may the force be with you.."

Chinese New Year and Me, as a Feng Shui Expert

It's a time for tikoy, dragon dances, red clothes, ampao, and all the charms and good luck pieces. I personally don't believe in feng shui and all the other good luck rituals and beliefs, but being Filipino that I am, I have come to accept, respect and enjoy this tradition. Funny how Filipinos can easily adapt and accept different cultures and traditions from other countries, and observing them like they were our own. But why not? Isn't it a pefect time to do business.. sell tikoy, do part time doing dragon dance in Binondo, and sell and resell goodluck charms, crystals and buddhas?

I don't believe in the good luck and blessings each tiger eye, turquoise, jade or rose quartz brings in one's life, but I agree they make good accessory and accent to a boring ensemble, and that's the only reason I would have interest in buying them. If they would bring me good luck, fortune, good health, new opportunities, and maybe an endless love, I would whole heartedly accept the blessings.

The Chinese Calendar says it's a Year of the Rat. Every year, Feng Shui Experts interpret each animal's behaviour and turn them into something meaningful in each person's life. What do they have to say about the rat now? Im interested.. I heard that rats are favorite exotic food in other Asian countries (even here in the Philippines, in some remote areas in Metro!). I know it is repulsive, but maybe that explains the importance of rat for this year. They make good relief for empty stomachs.

I don't know much about these things, all I know is that Im a Year of the Dog. Whatever that means in my life, I don't know.. One thing is for sure, Im not a dog lover, and Im actually afraid of dogs.. sniffing dogs to be specific. Not that I do drugs, or I am a dealer, hell no. But I have developed this fear and paranoia that sniffing dogs would bite any minute, if they dont like your smell, or they dont like the way you walk. Stupid I know. But I am just thinking, maybe the dog sign would mean a preferred position in bed.. Hmm.. Yeah, now that makes sense. ;)

Loving Meg Cabot: Boy Next Door and Boy Meets Girl

I honestly dont want to be sentimental today, so I'll just write about the books I've just finished reading last week.

I've been hearing good raves about Meg Cabot. I cannot deny that her book Princess Diaries (which I've actually seen on movie) was a bomb, but only after reading her two books was I convinced that she deserves all the praises and raves about her works.

The Boy Next Door is Max or should I say John? poses as Mel's neighbor's nephew who come rushing to New York to take care of "his" aunt's pets after the old woman was attacked by an unknown assailant. With all the dog walks, newspaper rivalries, and celebrity gossips and model's escapades, that guy next door and Mel fell inlove, but the question is who really is this guy next door? I love how the story was told and written through email conversations of characters, leaving you thrilled, and excited about the next scene, story and feelings each character is uncovering. The tardiness and unprofessionalism at work are delivered in a funny way, that instead of being mad and frustrated, you'll just end up laughing, and wonder how these characters get away with that?

Then there's Boy Meets Girl which is a story of an HR Assistant, Lawyer and a sweet and kind Baker. Emails, journals, receipts, and restaurant menus.. where the story was told and written by each character. The story is funny and sweet in it's own little way, but I find it mature for a heroine to stand up for what she believes in. And you'll come across the The Guy's Next Door's characters in this book too.

Meg Cabot is just brilliant, and funny, and witty!

But now I am back with my dose of Shopaholic Series with Kinsella. I just got a copy of The Shopaholic and Baby. Just the right book treat for me today!

Union Bank EON Card and PayPal Power

Finally I have succesfully added my debit card (UnionBank EON Card) in my PayPal account and I feel like Im ready to go selling internationally!

It's been ages since I got my EON card which I picked up from the nearest Union Bank branch. I actually applied online, and it took just one week to process my application and I received a call that my card is already for pick up from the Union Bank branch I selected. After two weeks, that was when I picked up the card, and paid Php350 for the annual membership. If you want to enroll for one, click this.

However, out of excitement, I forgot to load credit/money to my account, so when I registered my card to PayPal, they denied my application. So only yesterday I only got time to drop by at the bank and deposited money. And yes, Ive successfully added my new card! So tip for those who'll enroll for EON Card and PayPal, deposit even Php100 in your card so you can add it on your PayPal account.

I think I'll gonna love EON Union Bank Debit Card! It's given that it is the only debit card here in the Philippines that is partnered with PayPal, and it works just like an ATM - you go to the machine, withdraw money and shop away! And the bomb is that it works just like a plastic money. Flash the card in any shops which accept VISA and pay without counting bills. Besides, Ive had bad experience before when I got my supplementary credit card which proves my carelessness and impulse buying behaviour, that I realized and promised myself I wont apply for any credit card account in the future. So I guess, debit card is just fine with me. And yes, I can bring the card when I get to travel even outside the country!

But the sole purpose of this card in my life, is not for shopping (and I have to keep that in mind!). With the power of this card and technology, I can imagine getting packages shipped from other countries.. (and really, it should be the other way around if I want my business and money!)
