Bonifacio Day!

"Andres Bonifacio, atapang atao. Aputol akamay. Hindi atakbo. Aputol and paa. Hindi atakbo. Apatak akalamansi. Atakbo atulin.." - cute lines popularized by Tikboy (Anjo Yllana), in a defunct sitcom Palibhasa Lalake. This day means no classes for students, and premiums for workers on duty today.. thanks for the man whose monument serves as landmark in Tutuban.. Ive seen a part of the documentary about Andres Bonifacio a few nights ago. Some believers and followers of this man's bravery are fighting to name Bonifacio as the first Philippine President heading Katipunan and revolt against Spaniards. Another issue involving the greatness of Bonifacio. We know the fight to have him as National Hero over Rizal is not yet resolved. Funny to know that Bonifacio actually came from a well-off family (and that he used to have a tutor! rich kid eh? - this is something I missed in our class..), a complete opposite of how he is usually described in our history textbooks: barefooted, from Tondo, and sells fan for a living. These actually came right after his parents died and he had to stand as a breadwinner for the family. Now that is some autobiography lesson..

Changing history books and textbooks, and the history of Philippines to name Bonifacio as the First Philippine President would mean so much trouble.. in my humble opinion. We know how Bonifacio's life ended from the hands of another Filipino: Emilio Aguinaldo. And thinking about the reactions of Aguinaldo's great grandchildren in reverting the history would mean never-ending rivalry between these parties.

Besides, I think celebrating his day today is much more important than having his name and picture included in the gallery of Malacanang Palace.. Has anyone notice? Do we celebrate Aguinaldo Day?! ;)

The Man and His Fight

Trillianes strikes back. As I write this piece, the man who was coinned the new hero last Senatorial elections is still in Manila Peninsula Hotel (where he and the rest of the troop settled after they walked out from Makati RTC). Media people see the scene as the Oakwood mutiny de javu. Trillianes is crying for PGMA to step down from Malacanang. I personally pity and admire the articulate man with his dignified look. It seems that people refuse to get involved with politics anymore. After all the rallies and brouhaha in Edsa, Makati and Legarda, Philippines is still in the same frame anyway. I think people, "the masang Pilipino" would refuse to participate despite their beliefs and confidence in this man, especially that PGMA granted pardon to Erap few months back. It seems that the most people could do to show their support is to stay tuned on what's happening at this very moment and wave their admiration to Trillianes just like what Makati workers did. AFP on the other hand is asking for people's calmness.. which I think they should practice, with tanks settled in Malacanang, and national military groups in full alert (are these weapons and preparations for Trillianes group or their way of scaring Trillianes ' supporters?!) Why set up like war in Iraq? Im not really a fan of PGMA but Im more than contented to have her as the president with things running normally each day. Not that I think she is the best president. I can't imagine traffic in Metro today.. and the trouble Media people have to face.. the same with the cancelled events in Manila Pen (think of the weddings.. debut.. celebrations..).. plus cancelled airtimes for tv shows.. if things get to worst.. wasted lives to count..

It's still sad to think that behind other people's great interest and passion for change and justice for Filipinos, are people with only personal interests using these events to get what they want.. I cannot point and name all of them.. but I am sure they are present, right now in Malacanang, and Manila Pen.

Kiehl's in Manila

A treat for all girls in Metro - after so many years of waiting, Kiehl's which started as a local pharmacy, (like our local Watson's!) opened last month in Greenbelt5. I remember getting stuff only from Ebay or from other online stores. I personally invest on skin care products and anti-aging stuff more than beauty products (but I cannot deny that I love buying make ups too!) and having Kiehl's in Manila is really a reason to celebrate!

I havent visited the store yet.. (I hope they would expand soon, a store in Gateway or Trinoma won't hurt their image); and Im not sure if Manila store carries all the products. I know alot of people are fans of the LipBalm #1.. (for my lips, Im fine with Perfumeria Gal Madrid Lip Balm) but my favorite is the Abyssine Eye Cream for my peepers! What about yours?

My High School friends can attest that I was never a bookworm.. and it surprises me that now I can finish one paper back in a day! What hooked me on reading? Probably just when I received a Harry Potter Book set as a birthday gift from my sister 6 years ago. But now I particularly dig chiclits. Yes chiclits! WIth those fun, sexy, catchy titles and nice book covers. They used to say that people, actually, girls who love reading romance novels would end up being an old maid or a member of NBFSB club (no boyfriend since birth). They say these girls probably live on fantasy and prince charming and perfect love. But I would like to think otherwise. I read books, and chiclits because they entertain me; and somehow they never cloud my judgement on things and preferences. Though of course we all pray for our prince charmings.. ;)

Ive finished some good books last week.. but I thought of just bragging about the most recent book Ive finished. One True Love by Stephanie Doyle is a special chiclit offering of Harlequin books. Yes, Harlequin.. those novels with seductive covers. But One True Love is a fun read! It's a typical friends became lovers love-triangle story. But what's admirable about the story is that the characters are not perfect. I cannot think of any celebrity who'll fit Corrine's (the heroine) description, but just a hint she's not tall, she wears push-up bra, and she wears contact lenses. You wouldn't think of Sarah Jessica Parker, or Anne Hathaway while reading the book, but you will love her just the same. The vacation setting makes me think of Boracay and the nice beaches in Cebu. The characters' remarks are funny and witty, and the ending is just as hilarious as the whole book. Which made me want to read the rest of Harlequin's chiclits offering.. :)

Blog-a-licious!

Ok it's been a while.. a long while.. and Ive decided to write again. Blog and rant. And I always think Im a good writer. Haha

I thought of registering a new blog.. and here it is now! Welcome! (Because for some reasons that I have a few secrets.. and stories.. and feelings Ive written about in my old blog which I dont feel like going back to, or discussing..) ;)
I love how Google incorporated Blogspot and Gmail account.
First off - my blog name.. of course I want my name included in the blog.. since adding -licious to describe something nice, sexy and fun (bootylicious.. divalicious.. etc..) why not attach the suffix in my name? ;)

I thought of designing and editing my own template like the one I had then (yuck, I even remember studying and researching about HTML! and I feel like a techie! Haha). Ok, I was trying to load a nice template, but it just won't work. I might as well use my old template and edit the background pic. Hope it's not an eyesore.. :)
